#07 / MATIAS FALDBAKKEN: UPPING THE ANTI

“The biggest problem you can have is of course being mainstream: being white, male and heterosexual.”

mono.kultur #07 / August & September 2006
English / 15 x 20 cm / 36 Pages / Printed on Two Different Stocks of Paper
Matias Faldbakken lives and works as an artist and writer in Oslo. Son of the celebrated Norwegian author Knut Faldbakken, he published two novels, ‘The Cocka Hola Company’ and ‘Macht und Rebel,’ as part of the ‘Scandinavian Misanthropy’ trilogy under the alias Abo Rasul. Drenched with acid humour and generous portions of bad taste, his books immediately caused a considerable stir in Norway. Humour is also the common denominator for his equally successful artwork, which was presented at the Venice Biennial and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, to name but a few.

With mono.kultur, Matias Faldbakken talked about good taste, the balance between literature and fine art and why resistance is necessary but pointless.

The issue features original artwork by Matias Faldbakken on status symbols, conceived exclusively for mono.kultur, printed in gold, well, almost anyway. The magazine comes with an additional free mono.poster #04 by Faldbakken.
